Managing file revisions

Updated over 3 weeks ago

CoLab’s file revision management allows you to maintain version control over updated versions of the same file in CoLab. Once requested changes have been made to a file, a file revision can be uploaded to CoLab for review.

When using CoLab’s file revision system, the file revision will be nested under the original file.

Uploading a File Revision

You can upload new file revisions using 3 different methods: our home page file upload box and its "Matching files" feature, using the "Upload new revision" option in Drive, or directly through an open review.

Revisions through the "Matching files" feature

If the system identifies that you are attempting to upload what may be a new version of a file, rather than a unique file, it will show "Matching files" at the bottom of the upload box. Clicking on it will bring up an explanation of what the system is seeing, and an option to upload as a revision instead of a new file.

Uploading a revision through Drive

Right click on an existing file in Drive and select Upload new revision.

Uploading a revision through Reviews

For a file under review, navigate to the Files tab under the review itself. Right click on a file (or open the three-dot menu) and select Upload a revision.

Understanding version history

To see the all revisions of a file, click the arrow to the left of the file name in Drive.
