Using the 3D model browser

Updated over a week ago

The Model Browser allows you to view non-geometric information related to the file, such as model hierarchy, file metadata, views and configurations (from native CAD files). It also allows you to search for and select items within a model and control their visibility.

Accessing the model browser

The 3D model browser icon

is found on the 3D toolbar. Clicking on the 3D model browser opens up to the model tree, a hierarchical view of the model geometry. Once opened, the model browser can be moved or re-sized as you like.

To hide or show a part or sub-assembly, click the eye icon to the right of each part or sub-assembly name.

Navigating the model browser

Model Tree

The model tree provides a structured hierarchical view of the model that allows for easier sub-assembly or part selection and investigation. The properties table appears at the bottom of the model tree displaying the properties imported with the CAD model of the selected assembly, sub-assembly or part.

Hide and show sub-assemblies and parts

To hide or show a part or sub-assembly, click the eye icon to the right of each part or sub-assembly name.

Properties Menu

The Properties menu consistently appears at the bottom of the model tree, offering convenient access to part properties. Simply click on a part listed under the Model Tree tab to view its properties. These properties are imported from your CAD tool and displayed within the Properties menu.

Layers

The layers tab allows you to set the visibility of the model layers (object groupings).

Views

Views are representations of the model with a specific camera position, part visibility and can include cutting planes and PMI. The views tab lists 2 types of views: CAD views and saved views. CAD views are import with the model and saved views are created within CoLab.

Configurations

The configurations tab lists the saved states of the model from your original CAD tool that are pulled into CoLab for viewing.

Filters

The filters tab shows grouped items that when selected either highlight or set the visibility of those grouped items.

PMI

The PMI tab lists the model product manufacturing information. Visibility of these can be toggled here.

Measurements

The measurements tab lists measurements that are created in CoLab. From here, measurements can be selected and also hidden or shown.
