VA/VE Best Practice: Using the 'idea' feedback type

Key activity: Capturing and discussing ideas

Ideas can be effectively captured in CoLab through the Feedback function. This tool allows users to pin feedback to a model or drawing as well as annotate PDFs, images, and 3D models with markup.

Idea capture in CoLab allows you to pull the cost forward by significantly reducing the time/effort to consolidate ideas and have the ideas in the context of the model to reduce back and forth communications to figure out the idea means.

In a VA/VE setting, once a pin has been dropped, you can select the feedback type using the dropdown.

Every piece of feedback, regardless of type, comes with a discussion area to allow users to collaborate on specific feedback allowing users to engage in discussion with all the context of a saved view state.

Why specify an idea type?

The 'Idea' feedback type has additional properties that will help with pipeline management such as impact, effort, unit savings and more.

Within the CoLab feedback tracker, you will be able to use the 'Effort' and 'Impact' properties to prioritize potential ideas by implementation effort and impact.

As high priority ideas are identified, the team can further define the estimated savings. The team can then see the estimated savings of each individual idea as well as utilize the Track calculator to show the total savings across your pipeline.
