VA/VE Best Practice: Using CoLab for VA/VE Idea Implementation

Updated over a week ago

Key Activity: Selecting Ideas for Implementation/ Change Review in CoLab

Using CoLab for VA/VE allows users to manage the idea pipeline in alignment with existing processes and planned timelines. This article will describe the process of transitioning ideas into ECRs for review as well as highlight the benefits of asynchronous ECR collaboration in CoLab.

Within CoLab’s track table ideas can be selected for implementation by changing status to In Progress and kick off an ECR.

When the ECR review is complete the ECR # can be entered in the Resolution field and the status can be changed to Accepted (Resolved) once the change is approved and implemented.

URLs can be added both in CoLab and in PLM. The team can continue to prioritize ideas and follow an agile process towards implementation.

Why Review ECRs in CoLab?

Beyond managing the idea pipeline, CoLab allows for an ECR review to be conducted completely asynchronously. This allows the teams to:

  • Increase the number of contributing reviewers

  • Review change requests all within the context of the model/design data

  • Document details regarding why a change was made and maintain traceability to all of the discussion around the design decision. A link to the CoLab review can be stored in PLM or other systems that govern change management.
